Year's End Stuff

Remiss of me not to update the blog for a month, I know, but I've always said I find this blogging thing a bit hard. I'm not a natural blogger. Still, I don't want to stop it since reading comments from you lot now and again is well worth the effort.

So, what's been happening? Let's see. The new Deathwatch short is finished and has been approved by Inquisitor Kyme. The story is called Exhumed, and I'm hoping you'll all like it as much as you seem to have liked Headhunted. Readers who know Headhunted will definitely be at an advantage, but Exhumed ought to be comprehensible for those that don't (at least, I'm hoping so). Look for it when Fear the Alien is released next year.

It's on to my new novel now. Much of it is already established in my mind, but I've got to get a proper synopsis done before any contracts are signed. I've a long chat scheduled with the Kymester on Wednesday and I'm hoping to get the final details hammered out. I'm looking forward to this one. More info when I'm told I can leak something.

In non-BL news, I'm hoping to get a new computer sorted out this month. My e-machines died on me after 6 years of solid service. The Dell I'm using as a substitute is the same age and definitely on its last legs. Time to get a monster graphics machine so I can get back into 3d character design and the like, which I've always loved. I'm also looking forward to discovering how PC gaming has evolved over the years that I've been exclusively a console-gamer. Yeah... really looking forward to that! :D

Talking of games, I've got to recommend Square-Enix/Pop-Cap's new collaboration. It's called Gyromancer, and you can get it on PC or Xbox360 for about $15 (don't know how much in British pounds). It's absolutely awesome - a combination of Pop-Cap's addictive Bejeweled Twist gameplay and Square-Enix's beautiful fantasy art, great music and high production values. It really has me hooked right now.

I've also recently developed an interest in the CCG (collectible card game) Magic: The Gathering. I watched some of the world championships live on the web and couldn't understand a bit of what was happening (world class players are really serious about this stuff), but the basic game is loads of fun, and I managed to pick up a starter set for only about $4!.

Anyway, that's all for now, except to say that there's still just a little time left to get your questions in for the Rynn's World video interview. So, if any of you have something else to ask, get in touch with me via the Contact page and let me know. The questions are mounting up now, though, I must admit, so I won't be able to answer all of them.

I can't wait for Rynn's World, Mr Parker. The first of the Space Marine Battles series!! Yes!!!
So you are thinking about a gaming-enabled computer, good sir? I highly endorse that idea. I definitely recommend some of the RTS games, since you can really get most any FPS on PC for a Console...RTS though, I think only Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth and Halo Wars are the prominent ones...however, the latest installment into the Dawn of War series Dawn of War II! Hopefully I look forward to seeing you on there!

I saw Gyromancer in the Square Enix newsletter last moth and cursed the fact that it's only for the 360 and PC. It's the same for The Last Remnant. Really want to play it as looks amazing but I can't as Sony owns my sole.

Though it's all bit moot at present as I'm livin' it large with Ubisoft.

@The SGC:
You're forgetting Command and Conquer 3 for Xbox360, aren't you? It's a really good console RTS (though I'm sure it's still better suited to the PC).
I can't deny that Dawn of War 2 is one of the reasons I can hardly wait to get a new PC. :D

@Xhalax
The Last Remnant is great, and completely underrated, IMO. You're missing out!
Maybe the PS3 will get it later, but I doubt it. Well, after FFXIII is released, you'll have plenty to keep you happy, won't you?
I'm not looking forward to FFXIII all that much, though. SquareEnix do great monster and environment art, but their characters bug the sh*t out of me. This time, they seem more mundane than ever.

Oh, and Xhalax, if you like a challenge in your RPGs, nothing compares to Demons' Souls. That and Borderlands are bloody awesome.

There were vague rumours of possibly putting The Last Remnant onto PS3....but that was quite a while ago and there's been nada since then, so I'm not holding my breath over that one...which really pisses me off as it looks visuall AWESOME and the game play looks brilliant too and there's an intriging storyline behind it.

I've heard good things about Borderland....but what worries me somewhat is that it has a shooter element to it (as well as RPG) and I'm diabolical at shooter because I'm a very lazy gamer...meant literally because I play computer games while lying down. I really should invest in a gaming chair but I have no room for it in the square place that is my room....and lying down is somewhat an anthema to shooters.

But I'll keep it in mind, thanks Mr. Parker.

But in truth, I'm hip deep in Assassin's Creed 2. Then there's Dante's Inferno in Feb and then the FF fangirl in my will be beside herself with XIII (though secretly a miffed that it's not Verses XIII as it looks like the more engaging story and the main character is a guy rather than a girl). And then there's all the other games I have but haven't finished it (Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Overlord 2, Eternal Sonata, Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry 4).

Need to game more....and on that note, I'm off to 15th Century Italy.

Love Ezio!

And Command and Conquer/Red Alert are great games.....I always consider getting them on my PS3 over the Network but seem to always talk myself out of it because I have so many other games to play.

Don't know why I've not managed to buy them yet as the downloads are a complete bargain.

Xhalax, that's way too much Square-Enix software on your list. Thin it out a bit, I reckon. They're not that great. Devil May Cry 4, for example, beats any Square-Enix game I've ever played. I suppose it's down to personal taste, though. And Eternal Sonata... can't believe you stopped playing it. Bloody beautiful game, that.

As for C&C, I didn't dig the style of Red Alert. The Xbox360 C&C3 rocked, though. In fact, I was a total idiot to trade it. Maybe I'll get it again on PC eventually.

Right now, I've got Demon's Souls on the brain... err, I mean Deathwatch. I've got Deathwatch on the brain. Yeah, that's it. Me? Gaming? Why no, sir. All lies.

C&C 3 was on the 360? Cool, I never realized. I just don't have a 360...I'm a general PC gamer.
DoW II rocks...well, it didn't until Relic added the Last Stand game mode. Sweet mama! That is one of the best DLC game modes I have played period. It doesn't even get repetitive, really.

Ahh..coming off the "game-high" you get when you face high danger situations...just played Last Stand! I had a dreadnought beacon, some one else had a beacon...two dreadnoughts in the same game with two Space Marine Captains armed with plasma guns is BA, hands down.
Yup, that's what DoW II gets you every time.

But it's only 2 Mr. Parker.

And I stopped playing Eternal Sonata for now as I was more in a watching mode rather than playing (I spent pretty much the whole day of my birthday playing it) and when I came to start playing again I spent two weeks switching between that and Overlord. then it was Kingdom Hearts.

Then it got to November and I went back to watching. Then December came and Assassin's Creed 2 so I finished the first game and Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines.

Truth be told, I'm a flake but I get around to playing everything eventually. I play constantly until I get sick or distracted.....leave it for a few months and then when the mood strikes again, I play again constantly until I either get sick or finish it as I'm a stickler for 100% but on top of that, I'm a poor gamer so it takes twice as long for me to play.

@TheSGC:
I'll keep that in mind about the DoWII DLC. Sounds like it's making a huge difference to the game for you. I've already bought DoWII on Steam. Hope the DLC is free. :)

@Xhalax:
I'm not exactly the world's best gamer myself, but I tend to stick with a game until I beat it. If I switch to something else, I have to build my skills up on the first game all over again. Gyah! Not good.

I find that I think "Oh god how do I play this again?" when I restart a game I haven't played in a while but I quickly
remember (sometimes what I remember is why I
stopped playing in the first place).

My problem is stupid and clumbsy mistakes like
hitting the wrong button, despite the fact I know it's wrong. Forgetting some buttons exist (Assassin's Creed is my biggest culprit....especially with the new one as counter kill
is harder to complete successfully, unlike
the first game) and just generally not paying
enough attention to what I'm doing.

But I get there in the end.....give or take.

Yep yep all the DLC is free. Relic hadn't stabilized the game really when they released the Last Stand. They were working on a massive amount of patches until they announced it. Maybe for DoW II: Chaos Rising they'll have pay-for DLC, but I wouldn't say that for the immediate future, definitely.
