Ouch!

I didn't see it coming. Anyone who follows Nick Kyme's blog will know that he and I have been engaging in a few online gaming sessions recently (his first trip into the world of online gaming). Last weekend, it was Unreal Tournament 3. Top fun!
Well, that's on hold now. My Playstation3 just rendered itself utterly useless. It won't read any kind of disk whatsoever. Great!
It happened during Angels and Demons. Just over halfway into the movie, BLAM! The drive died. I think I took it fairly calmly. Nothing else in the room was destroyed. Now I have to send the busted machine in to Sony, who are charging me 9,000 yen to sort out their mess. Yeah, I said their mess. The word on the web is that a recent firmware update caused drive issues in original 20Gb and 60Gb PS3s. Not really sure if that's the whole truth, but it had better not be.
Anyway, gaming on hiatus for now. Just as well, really. I've a Deathwatch short story to write for Fear the Alien. Yup, that's right. More Talon Squad on the way. Keep watching this space.

I must admit that I've been very very lucky when it comes to games consoles as none have ever broken on me.
Good luck on writing some more of Talon. Just recently finished Rebel Winter and Gunheads, thought I'd quickly say how much I enjoyed them. Damn fine stuff.
On a personal note, the scenes in Dar Laq rank up there with Graham's 'Dragon Scene' in Mechanicum and Gav's 'Northern City' in Malekith for exciting, if unsettling and weird, scenes.
Hope the console's fixed soon.
@Xhalax: Long may your luck hold out, young lady. I've been lucky, too, until this generation. Manufacturing standards were higher in the old SNES and Megadrive days, I guess (not to mention the awesome Dreamcast).
@Xisor: Thanks very much for the compliments. Really glad you enjoyed both books (and I hope you'll like Rynn's World when it comes out).
Writing Dar Laq was a lot of fun, even more so because it offered a stark change of scene from the bleak Golgothan surface (it and was a bit of a nod to old Rogue Trader-era 40k, but you knew that).
Thanks again for the high praise (makes me want to read Malekith!).
I hope it does too Mr. Parker as I've just bought a Limited Edition Nintendo Wii.
And I hope I haven't jinxed myself in saying all of this.
